Post 20 deserves applause

Congratulations to the post 20 American Legion Twins Baseball Team on their winning the Alaska State Tournament. It was quite a feat to win seven straight games after losing the first game in a shutout. The peninsula should be very proud of the performance of this special group of young men. I believe a valuable lesson in life was learned by these young people and that being when you get knocked down or get a bad break, you don’t give up. They certainly never did as they battled all the way through tight games and extra innings to earn a spot in the championship game. They worked as a team for the betterment of the team to accomplish their goal.

Our heartfelt thanks to the coaches that gave their time to allow these kids the opportunity to compete and experience a summer that they will never forget. Some day they will tell their sons and daughters about the comeback of 2012, when against all odds they outlasted all those teams to bring a title back to the peninsula.

A special thank you to Lance Coz, whom without his tireless efforts to keep this valuable program alive and keep the bills paid, this would not have been possible. His years and years of being there for the kids is a remarkable tribute to what a decent, caring adult does for his local community. You continue to help build fine young men, Lance, and the peninsula owes you a big thank you for all that you do. The American Legion deserves a thank you as well for their continued support for all these years.

Good luck in the next round, and show them folks in Montana what a TEAM from Alaska can accomplish when you work hard and work together. Most of all, have fun and know that, win or lose, you gentleman are winners, and you have already made us all very proud.
