Cooperative effort creates successful region meet

When Skyview High School was asked to host the Region Cross Country meet due to flooding in Seward, we had a very short time to pull together volunteers, set the course, and deal with the typical logistics of hosting a quality event. I would like to thank Dale Ewart and Sami King from Seward for the pre-meet preparation and timing of the event. Results were posted shortly after each race so athletes and coaches could review them and ensure accurate results for our awards ceremony. Cathy Carrow stepped up again to be our volunteer coordinator. Thank you, Cathy, for organizing volunteers from Kenai Central, Skyview, and Soldotna High Schools, Soldotna Middle School, and Tsalteshi Trails Association members to run a smooth race from beginning to end. Bill Holt of Tsalteshi Trails also assisted in setting the course and providing course maps for visiting coaches.

The Central Peninsula Sports Center provided overflow parking for spectators to the region meet. KPBSD and Skyview administrators, in cooperation with CES, helped provide a safe crossing location. We would like to thank the John O’Brien, Dave Jones, Randy Neill and Johnny Cotton, for their help with pedestrian traffic across Kalifornsky Beach Road.

We would also like to thank Subway, Coca-Cola of Kenai, and Kaladi Brothers Coffee for donating refreshments for volunteers and coaches throughout the day.

Through the cooperation of all these different organizations, our region athletes and coaches were able to participate in another quality event at Tsalteshi Trails.
