Too soon for Christmas lights

I am grossly underwhelmed by the prematurity of the city’s Christmas decorations. It is bad enough that retailers insist upon putting out the Christmas goods long before Halloween. What is the message here? Christmas is not supposed to be about how much money we can spend and how early we can get our shopping done or buying to keep the doors of local businesses open — but that is the message I am seeing. Plus it breaks the cherished tradition of Christmas Comes to Kenai which, as those of us who have lived here for many years know, happens close to Thanksgiving. Where is the sense of tradition? What is separating us from being just another small town? What’s wrong with small town traditions? I am disappointed beyond words. For me it adds another reason to move from Kenai. We are losing sight of our old fashioned small town appeal and nature.
