Harvest auction a roaring success

Posted: November 10, 2012 - 2:53pm

The Peninsula Art Guild’s Annual Harvest Exhibit and Auction, which took place at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old Town Kenai, was a roaring success. Benjamin Jackinsky and Natasha Ala coordinated the event with a few new twists, starting with the distribution of ArtBucks to be spent on food, beverages, bucket auctions, etc., throughout the evening. A buffet of epicurean delights, all plated and wrapped for easy access covered four tables which were constantly replenished. A selection of wines and a local brew plus gourmet coffees were on hand to quench the thirst of auction participants. And then there were the auctions, both outcry and silent, featuring original artworks donated by local artists and art patrons. Auctioneer Larry Van Ray was awesome as he demonstrated his skills in energizing a room. Bucket auctions were added this year, featuring gourmet delectables. A raffle drawing took place after the auctions were closed, gleaning three different prizes all donated by local artists for three different winners. Door prizes surprised lucky winners. After all was said and done the Peninsula Art Guild takes a collective sigh of relief because it is well on its way to keeping the doors of the Kenai Fine Art Center open for another year. The profits from this event are designated for the operating budget of the art center and its programs.

The roar of success was evident not only financially but from the festive din filling the art center, reflecting a great time, celebrating local art. A surprising level of support for the only art center in the central Peninsula was reflected not only from artists and art center patrons but from local businesses like Art Works, Bill Heath’s WM Images, CBC Rentals, Country Foods, Country Liquors, Espresso Barn, Fred Meyers, Gourmet Gardens, Home Depot, Kenai River Brewing Co., Kenai Peninsula College Book Store, Peninsula Clarion, Redoubt Reporter, Printers Ink and River City Books. The Peninsula Art Guild is so grateful the amazing show of support from the community it serves.
