Many guns aren't for shooting people

Posted: December 10, 2012 - 8:34am

Growing up on a farm in northern Iowa during the Depression, almost every farm house had guns. We had a real neat very small .22 cal. rifle which I used when first hunting rabbits. My older brother used a single shot 12 gauge shot gun. I was about 11 years old and while going around the fence rows, I got the first shot and my brother took care of my misses. We skinned them out and hung them in our entry room to the house, it was our freezer during the winter and Mom could just go out and grab a couple when she needed meat for dinner. I don’t know the history of those guns as they just seemed to be with our family, and were never meant to be a “people” killer.

Guns do not kill people, people kill people.

Iowa had a gun class sponsored by the Sportsmen’s Club for school students in the 6th grade and our daughter took the class along with the others. They taught them how to service them and how to load and aim them. This was pistols and long guns, and in the 1940s.

The guns that I owned were a high powered rifle for moose hunting and a .357 pistol that was on my hip while hunting and also spent about 50,000 miles wrapped around my steering wheel while snowmobiling. I also have a 12-gauge shotgun from about the 1930s that was my father-in-law’s and hasn’t been fired for many years. None of these were meant to be people killing guns

When we lived in California I set up a good sized cardboard box, in our garage, filled it with wadded up newspaper and on the one side placed a target. Our three teenage daughters plus Dad had lots of fun shooting a .22 caliber air pistol at this target.

Bang or Crash, people died

Last week we had an NFL player shoot his girlfriend and then himself and Bob Costas went off about guns and the need to restrict them as they are killing people.
This week we had an NFL player kill his team mate due to a DWI car wreck, so i guess we now need to restrict cars? I bet even though Costas did not say to do so he probably wants it done. Give me a break folks, people kill people and use many tools to do so and we can't outlaw everything can we?
It does not matter what people say against guns as they try to restrict OUR gun rights, the SIMPLE TRUTH is People kill People, and they use many tools to get-r-done.
So my question is this, should we OUTLAW EVERYTHING and would it really matter?
When the people have no guns then those that would hurt people are allowed freedom to do so by many means. They have used hands, rocks, spears, knives, swords, bow & arrow, fire, drowning, planes, trains, cars and trucks and the list goes on. Will all these also need to be outlawed as well?
My position is that if everyone packed guns and knew how to use them then criminals would curb their ways, at least ones that wanted to live. We would have less troubles and crimes commited against others, now wouldn't we if we all packed?
History shows that where guns are used, permitted, present, crimes by criminals go down, as well as those commited by Govt. when facing a well armed Citizenry.
Punishment of crimes, as in if you kill us, we will kill you, use to be a detourant as well, but those are gone now, kind of like the desire to remove guns is being called the troubles, instead of the people commiting the crimes being whats really wrong.
People KILL People and they use all kinds of tools to do so in our "Have it your way" Society.
Personally i think we all should have Guns and Bibles and know how to use each very well in this fight against evil, but we don't.

Costas shouldn't say that!

His comments insult American gun owners everywhere, and if he doesn't like it he can leave or keep his political comments out of this forum of sports commentary. We should demand time for a counter comment. For your info, my 2nd Amendment rights are inalleinable and not for discussion. It's not based on weather I'm a hunter or not, and is my right as an American to own and control weapons for personal as well as civil defense. As a former Alaska National Guard infantry trained soldier until the day they lay me in the grave I will be an asset to the defense of Alaska and the Kenai or wherever I live.
It was clearly impressed upon all of the trainees by the Range Officer,(RO) during Advanced Infantry Training, AIT at Ft. Ord,CA's night live fire demo. Those old bleachers swayed with the knee jerk of 200 trainees when the R/O said lite it up! 2 M-60s, 6 AR-15s, 1 M49 grennade launcher, and distant mortors did impress all observers! When the 2 minute demo ended we were all sure NOTHING could have survived in that huge 400 yard by 1000 yard beating zone from that hailstorm of bullets and ordinance. Then the R/O said the 2nd amendment is the only thing that guarantees you might not have to face that on your own block armed with your Dad's old 06 or a pitchfork!
Every blade of grass is the way a knowledgeable Japanese officer discribed it to the Admiral invading Pearl Harbor, for the number and intensity of American fire power. New figures show 600,000 armed hunters converged on the State of Wis. and nobody was killed. More men under arms than France, Germany, and Iran combined Armies. this would represent the 8th largest Army on Earth. Nobody was killed other than falling out of a tree stand, maybe Costa would like to do this math. 750,000 from Penn., Michigan's 700,000, 250,000 from West Vir. and these 4 states comprise the largest Army on Earth. Throw in the other 46 States and it's like the grass!
Enemies foriegn and domestic will forever try to disarm US, as an armed America will never be forced to accept surrender even if enemies do defeat our military forces. It would be hard to contol, kind of like those rebels fighting for freedom in Syria.
The fact that someone used a trusted position as a sports commentator to unleash such a cruel and inflamatory statement insulting all responsible gun owners is the problem. So don't plan on getting away with this kind of statement no matter how supportive the networks are of Gun Control. Mr Costas just lost a fan!

Dishearted with todays news

Watch the next moves toward gun control go rampant with idiots putting the rights of everyone at risk, it's just another indicator of the depravity of love in this world today. It's almost enough to make a guy want to lay his black rifle down, but then only the bad guys would have them. What a tragedy, and being the 14th we only have a week until that allignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun and those Incas have been right before. Even so come Lord Jesus come and heal this very ill nation. pray for the Families.

Guns ok to protect Prez, but, not Kids?

Why is it ok for police to use guns to protect against evil demons, or CIA or Military to protect the President, YET, we can't have qualified people packing guns and protecting those precious children that we love so much?
As i said we all need to be qualified to carry weapons every where we go, EVERY WHERE WE GO. If the teachers would have been packing at the differant schools or other qualified person at those schools, then the number of deaths would have been reduced dramatically.
If everyone would have been packing at the movie theater when that whaco went off and shoot people, or the one in the mall, these could have all been stopped and deaths of innocent people that we love.
Good guys or Good women with guns are all thats gonna stop Bad guys of Bad women with guns.
What they He** is wrong with most people in their thinking that more laws restricting guns are gonna stop Evil Demon posessed people that want to kill all of us?
GOOD PEOPLE, STOP EVIL PEOPLE FROM KILLING GOOD PEOPLE WITH GUNS, OR ANY OTHER TOOL.
Everyone of us GOOD PEOPLE need to arm and know how to use those arms to protect those precious children we love or any of our other loved posessions.
When some one is breaking into your home or doing some other Evil crimes and you call 911, your praying the entire time that the GOOD GUYS, GALS WITH GUNS get there in time to stop the BAD GUYS, GALS. Why can't we GOOD help the other GOOD in this fight?
Legalize all of us to carry weapons and i promise this crap will stop real quick, every where.

Texas school arms teachers

A small town in Texas has teachers conceal & carry at school to protect their precious children. This shold be at every school nationwide and it will slow down the number of deaths by Evil Demons that want all of us dead. What better way to cause people to react in the wrong way and cry for gun control than to kill our children? If the GOOD people have no guns to fight EVIL people that do have guns in spite of laws, then who do you think is gonna win this war? Why wait for the GOOD gun packers to maybe show up in time, when we all can be the GOOD Guys stopping the EVIL Guys.
I don't know what else to say or ask about this warped mindset of more regulations against Good guys which will aid EVIL guys, not protect any of us or our kids.
