Time for GOP to wake up from dream

Ever see the movie, “Field of Dreams”? It’s about an Iowa corn farmer who hears voices telling him to build a baseball diamond in the middle of his corn field and the ghosts of Chicago White Sox players would come to play. In the movie, he built the field and they came.

It was a good movie, but none the less, fiction.

It appears the rationale behind the movie has become reality in the present day Republican party. Its members in Congress refuse to pass a budget using the excuse increased taxes for the rich will deter economic development. Yet, the Bush tax cuts have been in existence for over a decade and the economy tanked during that period.

The philosophy appears to be predominant throughout the GOP since Governor Parnell wants to implement large, immediate tax cuts for the oil companies without commitment to increased production.

Republicans were admittedly shocked when Obama was reelected. They said they were going to meet and readdress their party’s direction to get more in line with mainstream America. If this happens, perhaps they should place more emphasis on the “Joe the Plumber” group than the “Midas” clan.

A Field of Dreams? It’s time to wake up.
