When you apply for your PFD, please consider making a donation to Soldotna Library Friends. This is the first year that we (Friends of the Joyce K. Carver Memorial Library) are an option. All funds donated to us through Pick.Click.Give. will be channeled to our matching grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to provide furnishings, fixtures and equipment for our Soldotna Library. The library expansion project is moving right along this winter, and some beautiful day of Summer 2013 we will have the Grand Opening.
There are so many non-profit organizations working in our communities to make the Kenai Peninsula a better place to live. Jerzy Shedlock’s great article about using Pick. Click. Give. (Peninsula Clarion January 1, 2013) prompted me to go to the website: http://www.PickClickGive.org. The website makes it easy to research organizations by type or location. When I selected Kenai and Soldotna I found 26 non-profits I could donate to that have a direct impact on our area! Some of these, like the Soldotna Library Friends, are strictly volunteer organizations and have no paid employees. We found that it takes many hours to collect, submit and follow up on all the paperwork necessary for an organization to participate in Pick. Click. Give. So, another way to donate to the non-profit of your choice is to volunteer your time to help out with the paperwork so they too can benefit from the PCG program.
One last note: You can add or change your donation(s) any time up until August 31. So even if you have already filed for your PFD, you can still log in to your myAlaska account on the PFD webpage and click on “Show Deductions.” Your donation to Soldotna Library Friends this year will be a lasting contribution to a useful and beautiful new library.
