Food bank volunteer effort applauded

On behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, I would like to personally thank all our volunteers for their contributions throughout the year. In the last year, the Food Bank was blessed to have over 500 individual volunteers give more than 9,000 hours of their time to help feed the hungry in our community!

Recently we held a Volunteer Recognition Celebration dinner at the Food Bank with nearly sixty wonderful volunteers in attendance. Special hugs and handclaps go to Peggy Beilfuss, a kitchen volunteer who chopped and cleaned and helped me prepare the meal. Thank you to Food Bank Board Member Lance Briggs for your chocolate dipping expertise and performing hospitality and welcoming duties. Our evening musical entertainment was provided by Jim Evenson, Janice Carlton and Dick Weaver. We had a toe-tapping good time!

And appreciation goes to Doug Jung and the Kenai Safeway Floral Department for donating the lovely flowers for the event. Many thanks go out to Food Bank staff Brenda Dunn, Jim Frates, Linda Kendall, Lin Kennedy, and Phil Smith who all, after putting in a full work day, volunteered to help with this after-hours event; it couldn’t have been pulled off without you.

Volunteers, your willingness to use your gifts and abilities has strengthened the mission and purpose of the Food Bank, and you are appreciated more than words can say!
