Kenai Elks recognized for caring, sharing

The Annual Alaska State Elks Association Convention was just held in Sitka, where business was conducted, friends met, memorial services were held and awards were presented.

From Kenai, we remembered members lost to us this past year: Sister Eileen Rinc, Brothers James Harman, Jonathen Allen and Bud Keener.

For awards, two members of Kenai Lodge #2425 were recognized; Rick Mourek and Mary Jackson.

Rick Mourek, Past Exalted Ruler, received the Elk of the Year Award for his outstanding service to the Kenai Lodge as well as his service to the Alaska Youth Camp. (There are just under 6,000 Elks in Alaska — way to go Rick!)

I, Mary Jackson, won the 11 O’Clock Toast Competition. The competition was among the winners of the November 2012 contest from the East, Central and West Districts and only Exalted Rulers are eligible to compete.

The Lodge was awarded certificates for their contributions to the Elks National Foundation, Chaired by Ron Roberts.

The Convention was well attended and as Elks, we will continue to honor our community commitment: “Elks care, Elks Share.”
