Murkowski deserves kudos for Pebble stance

Posted: July 31, 2013 - 8:37am

Senator Murkowski is to be commended for recently calling the bluff of the Pebble Partnership by asking for “detailed plans and a timeline for developing Pebble Mine.” It’s about time that elected officials recognize the obvious.

The Pebble permitting process was to begin nearly a decade ago. But John Shively, chief executive officer of Pebble Partnership, said “getting it right takes time.” What he really seems to be saying is not that Pebble Partnership has no plan for spending hundreds of millions of dollars on studies and lobbying, but that the stars are not yet properly aligned from a political perspective. In other words, not enough permits have been “streamlined” to grease the skids (e.g. SB 26) so that innocuous permits are a guarantee. In terms of rigor, Pebble’s underlying assumption seems to be that feasibility is in the eye of the beholder and if they spend enough money they should get the permits.

Here’s hoping that Senator Murkowski gets the Pebble Partnership to show its cards.

PEBBLE MINE

You notice MB doesn't take a position on Pebble mine, maybe the 1.5 million he has stuffed away has something to do with it?

Sarah? Really?

Bob, you don't think Sarah would add to the polarization of Washington? I guess it couldn't hurt? Congress surely couldn't be any less productive than they already are!
Since Lisa isn't up for re-election until 2016, Sarah's better choice would be to run on the Republican ticket against (presumably) Mark Begich in 2014.
In either instance, nothing will change in Washington. Congress is fighting for the "haves" and not the "have nots."

Sarah as the republican candidate would almost assure Mark Begich another term.

Quitting is bad?

The best thing Sarah did as governor is quit! ACES was her crowning achievement which was actually a dismal failure. The "energy bonus" of $1200 on top of the PFD was an ill gotten political ploy.
Sarah would simply be replacing that nut bag Bachman. We'll have to wait to see who replaces Pelosi, Reid, McConnell, Boehner and the rest of Washingtons ilk.
As for Lisa's resume' vs Sarah's ...
Lisa: Graduate of Georgetown University, Willamette College of Law. Elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1998.
Sarah: Enrolled at the University of Hawaii Hilo, Graduated from University of Idaho Moscow with a degree in communications (emphasis on journalism). KTUU sportscaster. Wasilla City Council and then mayor. Ran for Lieutenant Governor. Served on Alaska Oil and Gas Commission. Resigned as Governor of Alaska after a failed bid as VP. Wrote some books, made some money with FOX.
And finally, her legacy is our current governor.
I'm not saying Lisa is the answer. However I am saying, in my opinion, Sarah is not! Just a pretty face with a nice body for a 49 year old woman! Other than that, just a lot of hot air and hate.

So?

Nancy Pelosi could be the devil herself and it still doesn't make a bit of difference on what Sarah would or would not be as a senator. So what is your point?

Choice

In elections, we are given the illusion of "choice." Whether it be Crazy Sarah, centrist Lisa or liberal Mark, the choice has been made for us. Whoever has the biggest "war chest" wins the office.
Bob, you are right! Pelosi is nuttier than squirrel poop. She fits in with the rest of the "honorable" congress. Looper, you are also correct ... it doesn't make any difference! A book for both of you "This Town: Two Parties and a Funeral--Plus, Plenty of Valet Parking!--inAmerica's Gilded Capital" by Mark Leibovich. Give it a look. It's a clear perspective of Washington DC.
