Support from one protester to another

Norm Olson and Steve Chamberlain deserve our thanks for taking a stand against the AIMM Technologies Monofill project which will be sited in Nikiski. It takes guts for private individuals to take on powerful financial interests who stand to gain at the expense of the larger community. We wish them well. We former Occupiers are well acquainted with what they are up against — the ridicule and derision, the curled lip and angry middle-finger, the apathy and the ignorance — all because we took a stand against greedy people and corporations who seek to buy and control our lawmakers and turn our own government against us.

The decision to build the monofill site in Nikiski was no accident. Though it is the hub for the region’s oil activity, this rural area is also economically disadvantaged, the people are poorly organized and they wield very little political power so we extend our thanks to Olson and Chamberlain for taking the lead in this fight for social justice and a healthy environment. Let’s hope that they can organize their neighbors to help in this effort.
