Senator frustrated with shutdown

Posted: October 6, 2013 - 6:58pm

Like most Alaskans, I’m angry and frustrated by the unnecessary federal government shutdown. The U.S. House can end this in 15 minutes by voting on the Senate-approved budget bill, without trying to impose the extremist policies of a few on the entire country.

I sympathize with the 13,000 Alaskan federal employees, most of whom are directly affected by layoffs, and the many more families and businesses hurt in the shutdown. I don’t believe Congress should be exempt, so I’ve furloughed about 85 percent of my own staff and am donating my salary for every day of the shutdown to an Alaska charity.

I’m also co-sponsoring the “no budget, no pay” bill, which prohibits any member of Congress from getting paid when the government is shut down or defaults on our debts.

Meanwhile, as a member of the Appropriations Committee, I’m working every day to end the shutdown. I’m bending the arms of Democrats and Republicans in both the House and Senate to let common sense prevail and focus on getting America’s economy back on track.

U.S. Senator Mark Begich

Well we Alaskans are

Well we Alaskans are frustrated with you as well Mr Begich and your follow the Leader off the fiscal cliff.
A question for you Mr Begich, do you also agree with BO on increasing the debt limit by $1 TRILLION DOLLARS?
As Bo said back in his glory senator days about Bush being non-patriotic because of his $8.6 Trillion debt, could we maybe get a call of out right criminal and UnAmerican about BO's dream acts now at $16.6 TRILLION?
Yepper! We're all frustrated, more are starting to see the light of reality as to who is really to blame though as the GOP continues to send the Senate bills to pay for Government and you and your leaders the Dems keep refusing to allow them.
Yepper! We're all frustrated over this shut down, but this madness has got to stop so why not now, rather than later when only God knows what our debt will be then after BO.
What other skills do you think you have as a means of support for your family Mr Begich and will you survive this frustration blame game?

MORE LIES!I just watched BO

MORE LIES!

I just watched BO at FEMA scaring Americans some more with his twisted truth, commonly known as lies.
BO said he will talk and work with the GOP "AFTER", "AFTER" they pass the bill and debt ceiling increase. Yes this is ALWAYS the case when people get what they want and are under no pressure to compromise.
Also I must say I'm sorry as I said the National debt was $16.6 Trillion, it's actually $16.96 Trillion, call it $17 and BO wants more.
As for the scare tactic of default on the INTEREST PAYMENT on our credit debt causing a National as well as Global economic Armageddon if BO does not get his way, is an OUT RIGHT LIE. The govt. takes in over $250 Billion dollars a month from taxes and our interest payment is only $25 Billion a month on our credit debt.
So if we default Mr Begich, PLEASE TELL US ALL, WHO IS TO BLAME OTHER THAN BO AND HIS MINIONS?
Try yet another scape goat other than the GOP being to blame, as the TRUTH does not add up to verify you or your leader words. As I have said many times, if BO wants America to collapse loosing our sovereign rights and freedom under our Constitution for a OWO rule, then everything he is doing leading to our collapse is in fact his master plan and working just as planned.
Simple math and truth always prove reality, always. Just because pride of being caught in lies and refusal to admit it causing yet more bigger lies does not make it true no matter how many times you say it or twist it around.
We do not need to default unless BO wants us to do so, and IT'S ALL ON HIM, NO ONE ELSE.

begich and obama

Such a simple solution...."just give ME everything I want, and don't ask me to give YOU anything!"

Somehow that does not equate with 'negotiation'.

The spoiled little dictator is unhappy because someone is stopping his program....so just make it as hard as possible for the PEOPLE.

We see the same cheap little tricks from local politicians. It seem to be endemic. "Don't give us more money to squander? OK, we'll cut teachers.... stop bus service .... cut police, etc." NEVER do they suggest to cut any of the unnecessary things THEY want!

And I love the way he and his ilk squall about "It's the LAW"....well, HE broke that law by giving waivers to his buddies and exempted all the politicians and their staff . If HE can change the LAW to give benefits to his cronies- why can't he 'negotiate' those same benefits to ALL AMERICANS?

When I see how our elected officials put Washington politics before the wishes of ALASKANS, it gives me no doubt as to how I will vote, next year. Enjoy the Washington cesspool while you can......

Obama did NOT break any law.The ACA was written ,and passed with those exemptions. One may not like this fact, but it is the law.

NO IT WAS NOT PASSED WITH

NO IT WAS NOT PASSED WITH THOSE EXEMPTIONS. The special interest groups were add on afterwards or should I say take offs due to the very loud crybaby protests of having to obey this law that no one read or knows what's in it.
Lets see what Norseman's favorite Senator Bobby Jindal says, 'Obama is not leading, he is demanding that he get his way or it's the highway.'
This sounds and looks about right.
Just this morning Obama opened the closed National Mall & allowed the protest march for immigrations.
BUT, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the WWII Vets can't even go in and view their also OPEN AIR MEMORIAL PARK like the National Mall is. The NON-AMERICANS get special preference to AMERICANS, & that's not RIGHT.
So WHO is Frustrated here? People in France wanting to visit the Normandy Beach graves of Americans can't even do that because BO wants his way.
The list of ABSOLUTE IDIOTIC DECISIONS coming from the Democrats blaming the Republicans is AMAZING, AS WELL AS UNBELIEVABLE.

BO interrupts Price is Right

BO interrupts Price is Right with more unending UNBELIEVABLE TALES.
Now this is Frustrating Senator Begich.
Bo claims that no reasonable persons EVER use threats to get their way, NO ONE other than the GOP.
REALLY? Lets see now exactly how did the screaming Union leaders get to be exempt, or any of the other special interest groups, INCLUDING ALL POLITICIANS? I know they made threats about withdrawing support from you that's how and they won.
I know! They made threats of NONSUPPORT and you caved Mr President, yet now it's all on the GOP.
Your lips are moving again and we ALL know what this means. If we default it's ALL ON YOU MR PRESIDENT.
I'll talk to any and all you say, AFTER I GET WHAT I WANT. YEPPER! THAT ALWAYS WORKS OUT WELL FOR THOSE WHO APPOSE, OR ARE SEEKING THEIR OWN DESIRES DUE TO INDIFFERANCES OF HOW THINGS SHOULD BE.
Pressure all ways makes people come together and talk, except when your involved with the GOP.
Thank God you cancelled your trip to Asia to give away more of OUR JOBS this last week, already this shut down has saved Americans from more devastation from your dream of absolute.
PLEASE REVERSE everything your accusing the GOP of doing as selfish and One way, BACK ON YOUR SELF AND SEE HOW WELL THIS ALSO FITS AS BEING THE CASE.
I wonder who won the final showcase on the Price is Right? Now that's FRUSTRATING not knowing this UN-Fabricated outcome.

..."The U.S. House can end

..."The U.S. House can end this in 15 minutes by voting on the Senate-approved budget bill, without trying to impose the extremist policies of a few on the entire country."""

The loudmouth extremist party, ie the tea partiers, are to solely blame for this shutdown.

First, the way our this works is that congress had their chance on ACA when they VOTED IT into LAW.

Afterwards, some of the tea party still wanted to fight it and spent over 41 more times trying to repeal it. Well it never happened.
Then they sue the gov't and it ends up in the supreme court. the supreme court being made up with more conservatives still voted that the ACA WAS CONSTITUTIONAL and it held up.
The people re-elected President Obama to a second term in place of Mitt "Corporations r people 2" romney.

Now a few right wingnut extremists are holding our country hostage because of their inane and irresponsible childish behavior.

The dumb part as Gov Jindal calles em, thinks if they yell loud and long enough, the American people will somehow think it is the dem's fault.
Well the only one's buying into that are the ones who are completely and thoroughly brainwashed from the tv and radio entertainers who use hyperbole to increase their ratings.

Our democracy and obeying the constitution is what the dumbpubs should be working on instead of wasting our time and money reading from dr seuss.

Some in here have very short memories so we have to continually remind them of facts and reality.

Any of you remember mitch oconnel stating" we will do everything in our power to make obama a 1 term prez."
They lost that but have NEVER EVER voted non partisan on any one item before them.
THAT my friends and enemies is what is wrong and has crippled this nation.
A 2 party system where one party REFUSES to compromise or negotiate anything that the people who elected them to do.
Reminds me of the korean peace talks when they spent months and years just trying to come to agreement on how big the peace talk table should be.
Bottom line is that 10 years from now we will be able to look back and see who stood on the right side of history and who was left talking to the wall.

Put the anger and blame squarley on the shoulders of the guilty, which is a few tea party extremists. If you need the names, just google em. After all, they all signed a pledge to shutdown our government. Oh thats right, some of you have very short memories.

P.S. Norseman giving yourself

P.S. Norseman giving yourself a thumbs UP for what you wrote does not make that true or acceptable either.
Nor does giving anyone else a CHILDISH thumbs Down make what they wrote untrue either.

Thank you Senator for

Thank you Senator for standing on the right side of history on this.

The [filtered word]s have caused the American people much suffering over this fools errand and will definitely feel it when the next election cycle comes around.

The billions of dollars, harm to families, and to our armed forces, will take a long time to repair. Whoever is ending the yahoo [filtered word]s to DC need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Again a big thank you too you, Sen Murkowski, and Congressman Young for voting Yes on re-opening our government.

Now start to work to prevent this from happening again.

the cost

The self proclaimed fiscal Conservatives just cost the taxpayers $24 billion by not doing anything. What would the cost have been if they had done something? Along with all the folks that signed a pledge to shut down the government-TREASON. People! Blame these folks for this fiasco after all of this. They still haven't come up with a budget.Just a band aid fix. Go figure!

the cost

Raoulduke, 24 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the 2 trillion and still climbing obozo care fiasco. It cost the Govt more money to shut the monuments than to leave them open. Obama and Valerie Jarret gave the orders to close the monuments, and inflict as much pain as possible to John Q. Public, you want treason? Try Benghazi, Libya, gun running to mexico, Fast and Furious, now there is treason and Obozo is up to his ears i it.

Treason is not properly vetting this POS before he was ever elected in the first place.

REelected

R.L.-OUR president was elected 2 times. So! The PUBLIC had spoken, and calling the president a POS is your perogative, but I feel you are a Limbaugh,Beck, and Fox News believer. So! you have your point of view.Where as the people that reelected President Obama can still see the forest regardless of the trees.I am a PROUD LIBERAL DEMOCRAT.The ACA is 18 days old,and the jury in my point of view is still out. What do you think of the signers of the pledge to SHUT DOWN the GOVERNMENT?I am hoping you think it was an act of treason,or at the least the signers would do anything for MONEY .
