Let’s help the federal government, with the debt problem. Seventy percent of Alaska is owned by the federal government. At a recent town hall meeting, State Senator Cathy Giessel stated, if Alaska was a sovereign nation we would be tenth in the world in our natural resources. A Washington Post reporter suggested the federal government sell Alaska (Dec. 14, To Solve Our Debt Problems, Let’s Sell Alaska).

I am sure China would be interested in purchasing Alaska. More gold left in the ground than has been taken out. Untold mineral resources. Fish to feed their growing population.

I have some real concern that Central Peninsula Hospital is now attempting to become a landlord under this ordinance 2012-19-41. The assembly needs to ask themselves the following questions:

1. What type for precedent is this setting for future and current medical providers? Is CPH now going to purchase all medical providers a building and remodel? Does this include current and future medical providers?

2. How many people are going to lose jobs because this medical provider wants CPH to purchase a building in Soldotna and upgrade it at a cost of $700,000?

Once again Governor Parnell and the Republicans are blaming the teachers for the failure of our public education system and your children’s performances. How about really investing in your children by bringing the system up to the 21st and 22nd century by computerizing the schools?

Looking at the Fiscal Cliff dilemma from an accounting perspective, raising taxes for the wealthy should actually benefit the economy. Every dollar spent on creating jobs and paying employees is a business expense, and therefore already tax deductible, so the more a business invests in job creation, the fewer taxes they will have to pay. Investing in their business therefore becomes even more of an incentive for the business owner, in addition to their privilege to be able to help grow the economy.
