A decade ago Ricky Gease wrote the Alaska Board of Fisheries declaring Soldotna too dangerous for a board meeting. The board has not deliberated in Soldotna since then. Recently the Kenai River Sportfish Association has eavesdropped on a UFA board meeting forwarding info to Karl Johnstone, fish board chairman. Most recently KRSA “bombed” legislators in Juneau with e-mails against the re-appointment of Vince Webster. 

In the Clarion commentary on April 11, the statement was made that Love INC would certainly benefit from the capital fund request of $1.75 million in state funds but I don’t believe that the homeless would. The later point, in the letter to the editor, done by Linda Bruce on April 15, which states that this requires further review, is very essential. Where are these people to go while renovations are made?

This letter to the editor is for the patrons of the Soldotna Library. For yet unknown reasons, an outsider lawyer, Mark Dixon, now Soldotna City Manager, has summarily fired a stalwart of the Greater Soldotna Community without cause, two years before her retirement, devastating a loyal and effective employee. Librarian Terri Burdick is (was), without doubt, one of the most competent and capable Soldotna employees in her job, even without a library science degree.

In the Clarion commentary on April 11, you are right about Love INC benefiting from their capital fund request of $1.75 million in state funds, but you are wrong to paint with broad strokes that it would benefit the community. What would benefit the community is to plan and provide homeless and low income housing that the entire community has the privilege and responsibility for helping to plan and figuring out how to pay for. Love INC should have never been allowed to house the homeless in the Merit Inn and did so without benefit of public involvement and input.
