The Kenai Basketball program would like to thank all of the parents, volunteers, local businesses, and fans that supported our teams during the 2011-2012 season. We appreciate the commitment that our community makes to enrich our students’ school experience. We’d like to give a special thank you to the City of Kenai and the Rec Center for their support and flexibility, and KCHS staff who donated time to referee our C-Team games. Our student-athletes also deserve recognition and thanks for their commitment and dedication.

As one of 471 nonprofits within the state receiving charitable donations through Pick.Click.Give. in 2013 I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to those who donated to our agency! Through your generosity and support, a total of $3200 will be forthcoming to The LeeShore Center to assist us in our services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Last year, LeeShore provided emergency shelter and transitional housing to 174 women and children for a total of 7778 bednights.

On March 23, the Kenai Elks Lodge No. 2425 installed their officers for the 2013-2014 Lodge Year.

Following that ceremony, Past Exalted Ruler (PER) Skeeter Creighton made three presentations that are a cornerstone of our Lodge.

First, he presented Herb Stettler with our Citizen of the Year Award. That award is given to a person who has given their time and effort to benefit our community; the person can not be a member of the Elks Lodge.

Since the recent passing of my father, the quotes he often made have more meaning to me. This one makes great sense now “Is that a reason or an excuse for what you did?” One is the truth and the other is well ... an excuse. I question our current KPB Assembly. An old adage states ignorance of the law is no excuse, but should the KPB Assembly get off with “we didn’t know?”

Since the first of the year 2013, we the people, have witnessed 5 Assembly members breaking the Open Meetings Act Law. Yes, that’s the majority of our local governing body.
