We have the best audiences that anyone could ask for! Last Friday night was the Evening of Classics concert, our annual fundraiser for the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra. Our audience was huge, and yet, as each soloist performed, the large crowd sat totally silent and attentive.  At the end, in the fun spirit of the event, all 180 people from all walks of life and all ages, stood up and did the "Chicken Dance" while the orchestra played.

After reading Ms. Martin's letter to the editor (Oct. 17), I felt that I too, should write to urge residents to vote. However, we have had far too many "business" men taking office in our country with disastrous results. I would not trust our "multimillion dollar operation" to such a business man as Mike Navarre. Let's not forget that Navarre was appointed this year to sit on the CPGH Inc. Board, which is full of businessmen, who desire to sell our hospital while it is at its "maximum value." Do not think the battle for our hospital is over, the CPGH.

I have worked with mayoral candidate Fred Sturman for over a decade.  The first initiative we worked on together was the 2001 initiative that, thankfully, stopped the private prison in its tracks. Since then he has co-sponsored at least seven more that I can think on which I've helped collect signatures. He is a tireless worker, and has put his own money and his own time where his mouth is. How many other people running for office can say that?

Next Tuesday, we decide between two nice men who are candidates for Mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. One has been pretty much a one note guy, consistently working to lower taxes. While this sounds attractive at first glance, it would effectively downsize all the government services most of us take for granted.
