At a time like this, we are at a loss for words when a loved one is lost. How to say it to bring comfort? How to say we care? How to say that we understand? CES, Peninsula Memorial Chapel, Alaska State Troopers-E-Dispatch, and the wonderful woman that took the call-your actions say it all.

I would like to express my support for Fred Sturman. He has worked hard for years to bring many important issues before the people.

In 2001, Fred cosponsored the initiative that forced the Borough to bring the issue of their proposed Borough-funded construction of a private prison to the voters. His sponsorship helped insure that local citizens had the opportunity to stop that terrible project.

I have listened to what Fred Sturman is saying. Yes, he is a little folksy but he sure makes a lot of sense to me. The changes he has proposed on his web site (www.VoteFred.us) are a lot more enlightening than what I see on the other candidate's web site. Fred provides positive direction there and planning that seeks improvement without "throwing the baby out with the bath water." Ah, but it's that kind of folk wisdom and common sense that scares professional liberal politicians. I just wish agents of the other candidate would stick to issues and lay off the character assassination.

I would like to thank the Performing Arts Society for connecting Soldotna Elementary to the UAF string and piano faculty as they visited our town over the weekend. As I watched our students enrapt by the sounds of Schubert, I was reminded of my own experiences of hearing professional musicians live for the first time.  I know this experience will take root in our students' minds in ways we cannot measure. Our community is incredibly lucky to have such an active arts society working to bring cultural experiences  to our town and schools. Thank you!
