Kenai Peninsula Homemakers FCE Council held their 62nd state conference at the Alaska Christian College on Poppy Lane in Soldotna August 15-20. Thirty members from across Alaska attended. We would like to thank the following for their help to make this a great conference!

In a recent Clarion article, the (Kenai) city manager was quoted as saying, “one of the biggest problems in the area are overflowing dumpsters at multi-family dwellings.”

As an owner of a multi-family dwelling in VIP, my dumpster doesn’t overflow and it has regular trash pick-up. My tenants, who have small children, have never seen a bear in the area.

October 4th will be another general election.

It behooves us again look to the Declaration of Independence for guidance in the personal responsibility we bear making sure that this nation, in the words of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address "shall not perish."

We read that to secure our unalienable rights "... Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed ..."  What does that mean to us?

Throughout our wonderful travels, my wife and I visited the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. You could go down a elevator or walk the trail into the cave; it was all downhill.

Viewing the fabulous scenery going down and then getting to the bottom and viewing the Chapel and other rooms, the guide told all of us to get near a hand rail so he could turn off the lights. That is one moment in a person’s life when it is as black dark and as absolute silence you will ever witness.
