The Second Annual City of Soldotna Bike and Skate Challenge took place on Saturday, July 16 at the Soldotna Bike and Skate Park. Attendees arrived to find a perfect 70 degree day with sunny skies, a free BBQ, live music by the Mabreys, a table full of trophies and a large crowd of spectators and competitors there to enjoy the event.

Driving to town last Saturday on the North Cohoe Loop I saw a backhoe digging a ditch for a new culvert on a driveway approach. On my way home I saw a woman standing out in front of the driveway. I told her the culvert was not necessary because there never was water there nor would there ever be water there. The driveways on either side of her do not have culverts, so what good is hers? She said the Alaska Division of Transportation just passed a law requiring the culvert.

You don’t have to strap explosives to your waist; or ride a motorcycle, or drive a car full of explosives. The Vice President has stated that all “Tea Party people are terrorists.” Now I have to disagree a little bit with that statement as I am a centrist and have voted for more Demcrats than Republicans and not a card carrying Tea Party member, but I agree with many of the points they are fighting for. Like a balanced budget and a whole lot more communication between the President and Congress before he makes those huge executive orders.

A little rain will not stop Progress or the celebration of Progress Days.
