A hungry crowd enjoyed attending an event on Saturday, May 5 to celebrate Cinco de Mayo where they could try many salsas and vote on their favorite tastes. The Kenai River Rotary Club – Soldotna, sponsored a Salsa competition at the Duck Inn on K-Beach Road, where thirteen restaurants and caterers provided seventeen salsas to sample. Some were hot and spicy, while some were mild and mellow. After more than three hours of going through mounds of chips and bowls of salsa, there were some clear winners.

Cars are not babysitters, they are babykillers. (Recently) I took my mother to the Salvation Army in Soldotna. As I got out of our Blazer, I noticed a toddler in a car that I parked next to. I looked in the car and there was no one in there with the child. No one near the car. I went inside the store to report the unattended child. As I went back to watch over the child, I saw a woman getting in the car.  With wittnesses present I told her, "Your car is not a babysitter, cars are babykillers.

I think this is an issue that is important to many people in Alaska: the cost of medication or no medication.

I am a 41 year old disabled single mother of a 16 year old daughter. I had a horrific motor vehicle accident, and was hit by a drunk driver. This was in 1993. It left me with a severe brain injury, and many broken bones. I lay in the hospital for 3 months, all because "D.T" decided to drive drunk. He got eleven months, and I got life. I had a trach for almost 7 years, and I deal with daily headaches and a body filled with pain everyday, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Kudos for Mr. Joe Ross at Nikiski; shoveling snow off the track at the Nikiski school was quite an undertaking. In my school days, way back when, the students who used the grounds would do some of the work.

I consider myself to be one of the Luckiest People to have worked, traveled and had a wonderful lady who has been with me in 57 years of these adventures.
