Join in the fun and celebrate the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge’s 70th birthday on Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Celebrate Kenai National Wildlife Refuge’s 70th birthday on Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’re “pulling out the stops” with a host of fun activities. Enjoy a free hot dog and chili lunch with birthday cake for dessert.


See live bald and golden eagles from Anchorage Bird Treatment & Learning Center (TLC). Listen to local musicians sharing their talents. Complete a family scavenger hunt and win a free moose sun catcher ornament.

Special kid’s environmental education activities will be on going all day. Meet the Big Blue Goose and Smokey the Bear. Fire staff will lead kids in “Dress a Fire Fighter” drills and safe campfire activities. Learn how to “Track a Fish” with fishery biologists. Meet Rex, our canine unit, who is very special member of our Law Enforcement Program.

View a wide array of special exhibits in the Visitor Center and Environmental Education Center. The historic Andrew Berg Cabin will be open and hosted. Decorate and add your special refuge memory to the Memory Wall.

Enjoy special bird walks and insect safaris lead by our biology staff. These walks are the only activities requiring pre-registration.  Call 262-7021 to reserve your spot for these bird and bug walks.
