Ostrander (in blue) registers runners before the race start. “Because fishing is so important to our economy and our community, I thought it would be a good cause to raise funds for,” Ostrander said. “Tsalteshi Trails are a great resource that our community has and I want to make sure that they are utilized. Sometimes they are intimidating so I want to help people be comfortable with them,” Ostrander said. She added that she also wanted to thank all of the businesses and members of the community who have donated or helped with the project. Kenai Watershed Forum executive director Robert Ruffner was also thankful. “It’s amazing to have Allie come up with an idea for Caring for the Kenai and then carry it through. The contest is over but she’s a contestant that carried the idea through to fruition.” The forum hopes to use funds raised to attract grant money and additional funding to combat the invasive weed. One race remains and will occur at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.
