Kenai Central baseball earns 1st victory

A 12-run fifth inning sparked the Kenai Central baseball team to its first win in program history on Tuesday, 18-8 at Homer in Northern Lights Conference action.

Ethan Oliver earned the win on the mound for the Kardinals (1-5 overall), allowing one hit and eight runs -- three earned -- over four innings. He also led an offensive outburst, going 3-for-3 with five runs, an RBI and a home run.

Also for the Kards, AJ Hull was 2-for-2 with four runs, 3 RBIs and a home run, while Hector Rivera was 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

"We finally hit the ball tonight," Kenai Central coach John Kennedy said. "We need to keep it up because that's what's going to make the difference."

The Kards lost the opening five games of their first season in school history, dropping the season-opener to Homer 9-6.

Kenai Central hosts Soldotna at 5:30 p.m. today.
