Mariners softball upends Kardinals, 13-4

 

Brooke DeVaney went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, Lauren Cashman went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs and the host Homer softball team defeated Kenai Central 13-4 in Northern Lights Conference action Tuesday.

The Mariners improve to 8-7 overall.

Homer scored in every inning but the third, plating one in the first, five in the second, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Mariners didn't bat in the seventh because they were the home team.

For the Mariners, Alecia Stafford was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Edrei Evarts and Monica David both scored twice for Homer, which pounded out 12 hits against Kenai Central's Sarah Bressler.

For the Kards, who finished with five hits, Bressler and Havan Shaginoff tallied RBIs.

Kenai Central hosts Soldotna at 4 p.m. today, while Homer hosts Bartlett for a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
