American Legion Twins, Dimond split doubleheader

The American Legion Twins split a doubleheader with Dimond in Anchorage on Sunday.

The Twins lost the first game, a league contest, by the score of 10-8 in nine innings. The local nine came back to win the second game 17-4. The Twins are now 6-8 in the league and 8-12 overall.

The Twins return to Kenai to play in the Bill Miller Big Fish Tournament from Tuesday to Thursday. The Twins play at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

AJ Hull took the loss in the first game for the Twins. Shayne Miller was 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Ben Barton was 2-for-5 and Josiah Covey was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jake Darrow also had a double.

"Being able to play with Dimond was a big thing," Twins assistant head coach Gresham Oliver said. "They 10-runned us in both games earlier this year."

The Twins did more than just play with the Lynx in the second game. Miller pitched the first three innings for the win, while Mason Kanakis pitched the last four.

Ethan Oliver was 3-for-4 with four runs; Darrow, Hull and Covey had triples; and Dylan Morrison was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

"We had 15 hits in the second game," Oliver said. "Almost all of our starters had a hit.

"We played really well. We only had one error in the second game."
