The American Legion Twins dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at Eagle River.
The Twins lost the first game, which went nine innings, 6-3. The second game, which went seven innings, went to the Wolves 13-11. Twins head coach Gary Oliver said missed opportunities was the reason his side lost the first game. The Twins left 15 runners on base.
"We had runners on base just about every inning, but we could not shove them across," Oliver said.
Jake Darrow and Kevin Rowe were both 2 for 4. AJ Hull and Tay Harling each had an RBI. Josiah Covey took the loss on the mound, while David Fuller picked up the win for Eagle River.
The second game was a slugfest, with both teams collecting 13 hits. Zach Weller went 3-for-3 for the Wolves. He had a three-run home run in the third inning and also had an RBI triple.
For the Twins, Hector Rivera was 4 for 5 with three runs and four RBIs, Hull was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI, and Covey was 4 for 5 with two runs, three RBIs and a triple.
"We started off hot, but we kind of had a bunch of errors later on in the game that just cost us," Oliver said. "It was not so much physical errors as mental breakdowns."
The Twins stay on the road to face Bartlett in a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader today.
