The American Legion Twins split a doubleheader with South on Saturday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
Both games were seven innings. The Twins won the first game - the conference contest - 4-3. South took the nonconference affair 14-6.
With the legion state tournament set to begin Friday, Twins assistant coach Luke Oliver was happy with the way his team won the pitcher's dual of a first game.
"It did have a playoff-type feel," Oliver said. "Both teams were ready to play. Both pitchers were pitching well. There also was a limited amount of errors."
AJ Hull got the best of South starter Josh Crapps. Hull went all seven innings and gave up five hits while striking out five. Crapps also went the distance and gave up six hits.
Oliver said Brian Rowe was 1 for 2, while Jake Darrow, Hull, Shayne Miller and Ethan Oliver were 1 for 3.
In the second game, Luke Oliver said players were moved around to some different positions. Mason Kanakis got the start and took the loss.
"We had six errors and they all came at bad times," Oliver said. "We just couldn't make the plays behind the pitcher."
Hull was 2 for 4, while Johnny Wilson was 1 for 3 and Ethan Oliver and Miller were 1 for 2.
