Tournaments heating up at Kenai Course

I would like to congratulate all the guys from Birch Ridge for winning the Walker Cup competition this year. They played excellent golf at the right time.

Most matches were close going into the final two holes. This is the most exciting competition all year. I would like to thank Pat and Myrna Cowan and Tom Walsh for being such gracious hosts.

Next year the Walker Cup will be contested at the Kenai Golf Course. We are looking forward to that competition. Both golf courses are in excellent condition this year. Everyone at both courses is working extremely hard to make your golfing experience a pleasant one. I would like to congratulate our team for being very competitive and not giving up when the going got tough.

The United Way Golf Tournament was held on July 23. Seventeen teams participated for a most worthy cause. I would like to thank everyone who participated and would like to say a big thank you for all the positive comments received about the condition of our course.

The team from Atigun finished first with a score of 17-under par. That team consisted of Bob Sizemore, Caleb Sizemore, Mark Griffin and Gordon Griffin.

Second place was won by the Peninsula Clarion team at 12-under par. Team members were Stan Pitlo, Dusty Steinbeck, Greg Harrington and Vic Hussey. Great shooting, guys.

The third-place winner was Alaska Valve and Fitting with 6-under par. Team members included Mel Lange, Belinda Natomoto, Tom Flood and Ricky Relano.

The following individuals won the Closest to the Pin competition:  No. 5, Greg Harrington, 17 feet, 11 inches; No. 9, Ed Marsh, 18—6-1-2; No. 10, Gordon Griffin, 9—4; and No. 14, Kelsey Brewer, 19—11.

Congratulations to everyone.

The seniors took to the course this past Tuesday. John Dahlgren won the low gross with a great score of 38. John also won the Closest to the Pin competition. Low net was won by Bob Bush with a score of 32.

Congratulations on a job well done. Again, I would like to thank Jerry Norris for organizing this competition.
