Kenai Golf Course presents great playing conditions

It's hard to believe July is over. What a great month it was for golf - so much better than last year. Let's hope August is just as good with the right amounts of sunshine and rain.

One-hundred players took to the course in the annual Alliance Golf Tournament. The Alliance staff of the Kenai Chapter president Bob Favretto, with his staff of Rebecca Logan, Ann Nazthcutt and Rene Limage, did an outstanding job of organizing and running the tournament. Volunteer Jeremy Iverson of North Star Equipment Services also did an outstanding job. All 25 teams finished in less than five hours. Great job.

The first-place team from BP included Dave Darsey, Rich Relano, Elliot LaChapell and Adam Walgenbach. They finished at 7-under par. Great shooting, guys.

The second-place squad from Enerflex included Mike Kebschull, Charlie Kahakalulle, Keith Stasek and Tyler Yamada. The Peninsula Clarion team placed third and included Stan Pitlo, Mike Brown, Dusty Steinbeck and Papapa Silviva Nicholas.

The Women's Long Drive on No. 6 was won by Heather Pieto. The Women's Closest to the Pin contest was won by Diana Zirul. The Men's Long Drive Contest on No. 2 was won by Matthew Malone, and the Closest to the Pin competition was won by Barry Brewer.

I would like to congratulate all the competitors for a job well done. I would also like to thank all the sponsors for this event, and a big thank you for all the compliments we received regarding the condition of the Kenai Golf Course.

Fourteen seniors took to the course July 26. Dale Sandahl won Low Gross with a 38. Great shooting, Dale. Low Net was won by Andy Anderson. Bill Davis won the Closest to the Pin competition. Jerry Norris, you have done an outstanding job with this program all year. We appreciate your efforts and hope your shoulder gets better soon.
