Oilers dominate ABL in handful of categories

The Peninsula Oilers dominated the final edition of the Alaska Baseball League Conference Leaders, finishing first in seven individual hitting categories. They also finished with the best team ERA.

ABL Player of the Year Mike Miller finished with a league-best .378 average. The second-year Oiler was tops in runs (29), hits (48) and triples (three). He also finished third in doubles with eight and tied for third in RBIs with 21.

Chris Mallory had a league-best 10 doubles, was second with 44 hits and was tied for second in runs with 21. He also was second with 22 RBIs behind teammate Patrick Wisdom, who had a league-best 26.

Wisdom and teammate Troy Channing finished in a tie for most home runs at four. Channing was second in the league in doubles at nine, while he was fifth in RBIs at 19.

Tanner Rust notched 21 runs, good for a tie in second, and also had eight doubles.

The Oilers' team ERA of 2.28 through July 29 - they played two games after that - was well ahead of the runner-up Mat-Su Miners (3.33). Four of the five leaders in appearances were Oilers, led by league leader Mark Winkelman (17). Reese McGraw had 16 appearances, while James Mannara had 15 and Tyler Blum had 14.

Jordan Mills led the ABL in victories with five and was second in ERA at 1.24. Teammate John Maciel had the third-best ERA (1.40), while Ben Griset ended in a five-way tie for second in wins with four.

McGraw was third in the league with four saves.
