Nikiski blanks Sitka

Stephen Hartley scores 4 times for Bulldogs

The host Nikiski football team erupted for 36 points in the second quarter en route to a 48-0, nonconference victory over Sitka on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 overall and remain 1-0 in the Greatland Conference. Sitka drops to 1-1 overall.

Stephen Hartley had a monster game for the Bulldogs. His four touchdowns were the first four touchdowns of the game. They came on runs of 67, 18, 62 and 48 yards.

Hartley finished with eight carries for 201 yards, and also caught two balls for 8 yards.

After Hartley scored Nikiski's first three touchdowns of the second quarter, Kaden Spurgeon and Seth Carstens scored in the last 40 seconds of the half to give the Bulldogs a 42-0 lead.

Spurgeon's touchdown came on a 1-yard run. He finished with 45 yards rushing.

Carstens caught a 9-yard pass from Colton Anderson. Anderson finished 9 of 10 for 132 yards.

Nikiski's lone score in the second half came on a 12-yard run by Josh Brown. Brown was second on the team with 50 yards rushing.

Walter Moore led Nikiski in receiving with four catches for 97 yards.

While the Bulldogs rolled up 345 yards on 40 carries, Nikiski's defense held the Wolves to 80 yards on 40 carries.

Mitchell Boord paced Sitka with 65 yards on 18 carries. Ryan Wood had one catch for 34 yards.

After having a problem with turnovers last week, Nikiski fumbled just once and did not lose that fumble.

The Bulldogs get a long break before traveling to play Thunder Mountain on Aug. 27.
