Memorial Tournament celebrates legends of Kenai Golf Course

The Memorial Tournament is a very special event at the Kenai Golf Course. It is nice to remember the people who have left us behind. Who can forget Butch Anderson, Rita Botelho, Donnie Morgan and the recently departed Bill Zubeck? These were very special people in so many ways and they added a great deal to the Kenai Golf Course. We still miss them all and will continue to do so in the years to come.

Gordon Griffin was low gross champion with a 76. Jim Bradford was the low net winner with a net of 69. Ryan Hardy won second low net, also with a 69. Jim won on a card-back on No. 18. Congratulations to both card-back winners.

Mark Azzara won third low net with a net of 70, followed by Charlie Rehder, also with a net of 70. Mark won on a card-back. Congratulations to you both for a job well done. Joe Deveaux won fifth low net with a 71, and Kirk Hyman was sixth with a net of 72.

Notable scores in the gross division saw Mark Azzara card a 79, only three strokes behind Gordon Griffin. Chris Murray shot an 81 and John Dahlgren had an 82. Tommy Carver carded an 83, followed by Mark Griffin with an 84 and Jesse Wade with an 85.

Notable scores in the net division included Chuck Rupenthal with a net of 74, followed by Andy Anderson with a net of 76. I would like to thank everyone who participated in this very special event.

On Aug. 23 the seniors took to the course. John Dahlgren won low gross and Bobby Bush won low net. John also won the closest-to-the-pin competition and Noel Widmayer won the longest putt competition.

Tuesday, the seniors took to the course again. Jim Bradford won low gross at 39, followed by Gordon Griffin with a 40. Low net was won by Noel Widmayer and the longest putt and closest-to-the-pin competitions were both won by Jim Bradford.

Tournament Updates

Sunday is the Kenai Golf Association final golf tournament. Sept. 10 and 11 is the Kenai Open. These are the final two events that count toward the Atigun Cup Competition. There is a Glow Ball Tournament on Sept. 23, always a favorite event for hardy golfers. Contact Jennifer Rosin at 398-2808 for more information.

Congratulations to Gary Rogers, who had an eagle on No. 16 on Friday.

As always, see you on the course.
