Wasilla girls, boys sweep cross-country meet in Seward

The Wasilla girls and boys won the Frank Dieckgraeff Cross Country Running Invite on Friday in Seward.

 

The Wasilla girls scored 21 points to beat Seward's 85 and Homer's 96. The Wasilla boys notched 44 points to top Seward's 48 and Skyview's 65.

The girls five-kilometer race was won by Mariah Burroughs of Wasilla at 19 minutes, 18 seconds, while runner-up Peggy Mathis of Wasilla crossed at 19:20. The Warriors took seven of the top 10 slots.

From the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna's Bree Mucha was third, SoHi's Danielle McCormick was fourth and Homer's Cassidy Soistman was eighth.

The boys race was won by Miles Knotek of Seward in 16:37. Runner-up Micah Hilbish was second at 17:16, while Seward's Matt Moore was third at 17:25. Wasilla's three runners in the top 10 were led by Noah Ripley in fourth.

Other Peninsula runners in the top 10 were Homer's Dan Adickes in sixth, Skyview's Sam Janorschke in eighth and Seward's Michael Marshall in 10th.
