Kenai Golf Course hosts successful KGA event

Thirty-two golfers took to the course in the last KGA event of the season.

Breezy, cool weather conditions made play a little difficult. In spite of the weather, some good scores in all three divisions were recorded.

In the first division, Mark Griffin was the Low Net Champion with a net of 71, followed by Chris Morin with a net of 72. Morin was Low Gross Champion with a gross of 77, followed by Griffin with a gross of 79.

Notable scores included Tommy Carver, Todd Eskelin and Rene Alvarez with grosses of 72. Third low net was won by Eskelin with a net of 74, followed by Alvarez with a net of 76. Carver, Doug Jung, Eskelin, Griffin and Morin each won skins in the first division. Morin won the gross side pot.

In the second division, the Low Net Champion was Chuck Rupenthal with a net of 69 and a gross of 83. Dwight Kramer was second low net with a 73 and a gross of 83.

Notable net scores in the second division included Greg Harrington with a net of 74 and Noel Widmayer with a net of 73, followed by Mike Houghton and Kirk Hyman with nets of 77. Harrington and Tyler Yamada each won skins in this division.

In the third division, John Gibson won low net with a net of 75 and a gross of 92, followed by Joe Deveaux of 75 and a gross of 92. Gibson won in a card back. Notable scores included Ryan Hardy with a net of 76, Bill Bushnell with a net of 77, followed by John Glidden with a net of 83. Deveaux, Glidden and Gibson each won skins in this division.

The closest to the pin competition winners are as follows: No. 5, Greg Harrington, 15-9; No. 9, Kirk Hyman, 19-7-1-2; No. 10, Kirk Hyman 10-3; No. 14, Bill Davis, 13-8.

Mark Griffin won closest-to on his second shot on hole No. 3 at 11-4 from the pin. Congratulations to all the participants in this event.

Net Division - Ryan Hardy, 71.5; Charlie K, 63; Bill Bushnell, 59; Kirk Hyman, 54; Mike Kebschull, 50.5; John Glidden, 38; Jake Eubanks, 21; and Jeff Johns, 13.

The Kenai Open will be the last tournament in the Atigun Cup Competition. The Atigun Cup Playoffs begin the week of Sept.13. Please contact the clubhouse for information and tee times.
