Kenai girls, boys take borough cross-country title

Kenai's Ostrander, Skyview's Hilbish take individual titles

The Kenai Central girls and boys swept the team titles Saturday at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Cross-Country Meet in Homer.

 

The Kenai girls were dominant in scoring 20 points. Soldotna was second with 48 points, while Homer was third at 54 points.

Kenai put all five of its scoring runners in the top seven.

Kardinals freshman Allie Ostrander remained undefeated in her career by running 19 minutes, 3 seconds, on the five-kilometer course. Kenai's Bailey Beeson was second at 20:37.

Also for the Kardinals, Taylor Ostrander finished fourth, Hope Steffensen took sixth and Noelle Schmitter-Schrier nabbed seventh.

Bree Mucha paced Soldotna by finishing third at 20:41. Danielle McCormick joined Mucha in the top 10 by taking fifth.

Also in the top 10 were Skyview's Hannah Hutchison at eighth, Homer's Cassidy Soistman at ninth and Homer's Pam Jantzi at 10th.

The Kenai boys scored 31 points to capture the title. Skyview was second at 53 while Homer was third and Soldotna was fourth.

Micah Hilbish of Skyview won the borough title with a time of 18:14, while Sam Janorschke of Skyview was second at 18:28.

However, those were the only Skyview runners in the top 10. Kenai put all five of its scoring runners in the top nine to take the title. Fox Michaud was third, Jordan Theisen was fourth, Nate Mole was seventh, Evan Atchley was eighth and Alex Springer was ninth.

Dan Adickes led Homer with a fifth-place finish. Dillon Jensen finished sixth for Soldotna, while Jonas Viekstrom was 10th.
