Skyview netters 2nd at Grizzly Invitational

Posted: October 9, 2011 - 9:25pm

The Skyview volleyball team lost to Grace Christian on Saturday in the finals of the Grizzly Invitational.

Amanda McDowell and Mary Hauptman made the all-tournament team for the Panthers. Brooke DeVaney made the all-tournament team for Homer.

The Panthers went 10-0 in pool play on Friday. Saturday, Skyview beat Eielson and Monroe Catholic to reach the semifinals, but the Panthers then lost to Grace. Skyview played its way back into the finals by topping Monroe Catholic, but again couldn't overcome the Grizzlies.

"With a row of region matches coming up, tournament play is so good for us because we end up getting a lot of matches," Skyview coach Sheila Kupferschmid said.

With the starting libero sick, the coach said sophomores Casey Neill and Sam Reynolds stepped up and did a good job.

The Panthers host Kenai Central on Tuesday at 6 p.m., before hosting Palmer at 6 p.m. Friday for senior night.
