Skyview edges Nikiski on mats

The Skyview wrestling team edged host Nikiski 39-38 in a dual Tuesday night. There were six forfeits in the match, Skyview coach Neldon Gardner said.

 

For the Panthers, Hannah Hutchison earned a pin in the 106-pound weight class, while TJ Checketts earned a victory by decision at 126. Bailey Blumentritt, meanwhile, won by pin at 138.

Skyview won by forfeit at 132, 195, 220 and in the heavyweight division.

For the Bulldogs, Dakoda Neely earned a pin at 113, while teammate Trey Zimmerman also earned a pin in his weight class.

Nikiski's Josh Brown won by major decision at 145. Teammate Kaden Spurgeon, a defending state champion, won by major decision at 152.

The Bulldogs picked up forfeits at 171 and 182. 

"All in all I was real happy with our kids," Skyview coach Neldon Gardner said, "It's going to be a battle each time we face them."

Nikiski coach Adam Anders didn't return calls seeking comment.
