Stars topple Bartlett in hockey

The Soldotna hockey team received goals from seven different players in an 8-1 win over Bartlett at the End of the Road Tournament in Homer on Thursday.

The Stars (4-1-1) took a 2-0 lead after the first period, extended the advantage to 4-1 through two and coasted to victory behind a balanced offensive attack.

Nick Wrobel scored twice for SoHi, while the Stars also received goals from Shayne Miller, Dagen Walton, Jarrett Urban, Max Hegge, Hunter Lott and Dalton Pearson.

Cody Harvey earned the win in goal for the Stars, who continue the tournament Friday against Delta before concluding it Saturday against the host Mariners.

Thursday, SoHi outshot Bartlett 12-1 in the opening period. Miller opened the scoring on assist from Kevin Stone, and Wrobel bumped the lead to 2-0 when he tipped in a Jonas Perletti shot with 11 seconds remaining in the frame.

Walton capped assists from Perletti and Urban to make it 3-0, before Bartlett’s Zach Perry cut it to 3-1 inside the two-minute mark.

An Urban goal, assisted by Walton, gave the Stars a 4-1 cushion heading into the final 15 minutes.

SoHi sealed it with third-period goals from Pearson, Wrobel, Lott and Hegge.

The Stars were 1 for 3 on the power play. The Golden Bears were 0 for 2.

The result of the late game between Delta and Homer was not available as the Clarion went to press.
