Kenai Central, Juneau-Douglas split in hockey

The Kenai Central hockey team split with host Juneau-Douglas on Friday and Saturday in nonleague action.

 

The Crimson Bears earned a 6-3 win on Friday, while the Kardinals took Saturday’s game 5-2. Kenai Central is 3-4-1 on the season.

Saturday, Kenai Central received two goals from Zack Zulkanycz, while Zack Mese, Jake Eubank and TJ Wagoner each found the back of the net once. Kenai Central coach Pete Iverson said Wagoner, a sophomore, had a particularly good two games.

“He worked really hard all weekend,” Iverson said.

Keegan Remsen started both games in goal for the Kards, who are off until after Thanksgiving.

Iverson said the team had a good turnaround Saturday after Friday’s loss.

“We played much better in the second game than we did in that first game,” the coach said.
