SoHi cagers sweep Seward; Nikiski girls edge Homer

The Soldotna girls basketball team defeated host Seward 49-32 on Saturday in a matchup of two state-qualifying teams from a year ago.
Soldotna got 16 points from Kaillee Skjold, and 11 from Julie Litchfield.
Seward was led by the 14 points of Jessica Stallings. The Seahawks were hurt by a 2-of-10 effort from the line.
Soldotna boys 66, Seward 46
Evan Withrow pumped in 25 points to lead the visiting Stars to a nonconference victory over the Seahawks on Saturday.
Garrett Bosick had 15 points for SoHi, while Tanner Fowler added 11.
For Seward, Jeff Buchanan had 15 points, while Jalen Terry added 10.
Nikiski girls 37, Homer 35
The visiting Nikiski girls basketball team picked up a nonconference victory over the Mariners on Saturday.
The Bulldogs built a 12-point lead in the game, and Homer could never quite catch up.
Dylan Holloway paced Nikiski with 14 points, while Savannah Griffel had 11 points and Koey Dixon chipped in eight.
“It was a good first game,” Nikiski coach Scott Anderson said. “There were a lot of good lessons.”
The Nikiski and Homer varsities scrimmaged, with Homer winning 60-43.
