Kards cagers get sweep of Bulldogs

The Kenai Central girls and boys basketball teams pulled off a sweep over Nikiski on Thursday in nonconference action at Kenai Central High School.

In the girls game, the Kardinals rolled to a 43-29 victory. Kenai outscored the Bulldogs 12-5 in the first quarter and had a 27-11 lead at halftime.

Bailey Beeson paced the Kardinals with 19 points, while Dylan Holloway had 10 for the Bulldogs.

In the boys game, the Bulldogs stuck with the Kardinals for three quarters before Kenai pulled away. Kenai led 18-10 after the first quarter, but the Kardinals scored just four points in the second quarter and Nikiski cut the gap to 22-18.

Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter before the Kardinals outscored the Bulldogs 25-9 in the final frame.

Colton Hayes had 21 points for the Kardinals, including 13 in the final frame. AJ Hull had 14 and Shane Spalding added 13.

For the Bulldogs, Lucas Herrin had 17, while Colton Anderson added 10.
