Kenai skaters top Bartlett

The Kenai Central hockey team notched a 3-1 victory over host Bartlett on Thursday in Anchorage in nonconference play.

“We came out just like we got off Christmas break,” Kenai coach Pete Iverson said. “We didn’t play well to start, but we were playing well by the third period.”

With 9:55 to play in the first period, the Kards got a goal from Jake Eubank, assisted by Russell Dukowitz and TJ Wagoner. Kenai stretched the lead to 2-0 with a short-handed goal with 4:54 to play. Zack Mese scored on an assist from Zack Zulkanycz.

After Bartlett cut the lead to 2-1 with a second-period goal on the power play, Mese scored with 3:46 left in the game to make it 3-1. Eubank and Wagoner had the assists.

Justin Alvey made 19 saves for Kenai, while the Kards put up 29 shots.

The Kards stay on the road to face West today at 7:15 p.m.
