SoHi boys win Grace Christian Classic

Kenai cagers sweep Homer

The Soldotna boys basketball team won the Grace Christian Classic in Anchorage with a 3-0 record.

The Stars completed their perfect run through the tournament Saturday with a 70-51 victory over Houston. SoHi led 27-20 at the half and 45-36 after three quarters.

Tournament MVP Evan Withrow paced the Stars with 22 points, while Tanner Fowler had 16, Cory Carver had 14 and Garrett Bosick had 10. For Houston, Scott Kramer had 18 points and Russell Ruta added 11, while Theo Stone had 10.

Friday, for the second straight night, the Stars pulled out a dramatic win at the Grace Christian Classic.

After beating Grace 70-69 on Thursday, the Stars topped Barrow 76-73 in double overtime on Friday.

Withrow, Thursday’s hero, led the Stars in scoring again. He had 20, while Tanner Fowler had 17, Carver had 16 and Jake Darrow had 13.

For Barrow, Eddie Benson had 24 and Colin Long had 19. Barrow had three players foul out, while Bosick fouled out for the Stars.

Soldotna led 15-8 after one quarter and 30-21 at halftime, but Barrow cut the gap to 49-45 after three quarters before tying the game at the end of regulation.

Kenai girls 57, Homer 23

The Kardinals took a 17-5 lead after one quarter en route to a Northern Lights Conference victory over the host Mariners on Saturday.

Carolyn Kiefer paced the Kardinals with 20 points, while Bailey Beeson added 16.

For the Mariners, Haley Oliver led the attack with nine points.

Kenai boys 63, Homer 36

The Kardinals cruised to a Northern Lights Conference victory, taking a 31-16 lead at halftime.

Bo Reilly led Kenai with 25 points, all coming in the last three quarters. AJ Hull had 14 for Kenai, while Colton Hayes added 10.

For Homer, Dyllan Day had 14 points, while Robin Glosser had 12.
