Kenai falls to West

The visiting Soldotna hockey team hung on for a 2-1 nonconference victory over Chugiak on Friday.

Kevin Stone, on assists from Jarrett Urban and Jonas Perletti, gave the Stars a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes, 11 seconds, left in the game.

The Stars took seven penalties for 22 minutes in the final period, meaning goalie Cody Harvey had to stand up to the Mustangs power-play attack. Harvey had 13 third-period saves en route to 23 for the game. Matt Bennett made 12 saves for Chugiak.

The Mustangs scored in the first period, with Kris Tomazevic lighting the lamp.

With 10:43 left in the second period, SoHi’s Dagen Walton tied the game on assists from Tyler Fenton and Urban.

West 6, Kenai Central 1

The host Eagles picked up a nonconference victory Friday.

“We were in there a lot, but we could not score,” said Kenai coach Pete Iverson. “It seemed like every time they got down there, they scored.”

Kenai’s goal came from Kyle Olson, assisted by Isaac Mese and Zack Zulkanycz.
