Homer takes boys team crown

Staff report

Grace Christian’s Daniel Serventi and Soldotna’s Bree Mucha triumphed after a tough day of skiing at the Seward Invitational on Saturday.

Bob Barnwell, the Seward ski coach, said that 6 inches of snow fell during the races. The temperature was about 15 degrees.

“It was a tough day for skiing,” Barnwell said.

He added that three buses got stuck in the parking lot after the race, and it took an hour to resolve the situation.

Both the girls and boys did a six-kilometer freestyle race. Serventi won the boys contest in 17 minutes, 45 seconds.

Bree Mucha won the girls race at 19:52, helping the Stars to a fourth-place finish behind champion Grace. Sadie Fox also finished seventh for the Stars.

Homer was the second team. The Mariners got a second from Marie Schmidt, a fifth from Kaya Morelli and a 10th from Maddy Gerrard.
