Ninilchik girls, boys lose 3 in Yakutat

The Ninilchik girls and boys basketball teams each lost all three of their games at the Mount St. Elias Classic in Yakutat. The tournament ran Wednesday through Saturday.

The Ninilchik girls lost to the Sitka junior varsity on Wednesday, Yakutat on Thursday and the Sitka JV on Saturday.

“I’m excited with the experience my girls had,” Ninilchik girls coach Rod Van Saun said. “I’ve never had a team get so much better in three games in my life.”

The Ninilchik boys lost to Yakutat on Wednesday, Craig on Thursday and Yakutat on Saturday. Jack Wheeler was named to the all-tournament team. Van Saun also said the boys improved a lot over the course of the tournament.

Van Saun also said Yakutat did a great job of hosting the tournament.
