Ostrander wins Gatorade Award

Kenai Central freshman Allie Ostrander was named the Gatorade Alaska Cross Country Runner of the Year on Thursday.

Ostrander is the first runner from Kenai Central to win the award. She is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The award recognizes athletic achievement, academic achievement and character.

Ostrander was undefeated on the course this year until she passed out during the Class 4A state meet. She set course records winning the Skyview Invitational, Homer Invitational, Colony Invitational and Palmer Invitational.

According to the press release, Ostrander also has a 4.0 in the classroom, is a devoted member of her church youth group, and has volunteered for a local food bank and youth soccer program.

“Allie has remained grounded, gracious and humble in the face of much success and expectation,” Kenai Central head coach D’Anna Gibson said in a released statement. “She’s a well-rounded individual and she was voted hardest worker by her teammates.”
