Homer girls, SoHi boys win Kenai Klassic

Mucha takes girls freestyle race

The Soldotna boys and Homer girls won the Kenai Klassic on Friday at Tsalteshi Trails behind Skyview High School.

The race was originally scheduled to be a two-day meet. Saturday’s classic sprint races were canceled due to cold temperatures.

Soldotna’s Bree Mucha won the 7.5-kilometer freestyle race wth a time of 27 minutes, 18 seconds. Soldotna’s Sadie Fox finished third as the Stars finished fifth in the team standings.

The Mariners put three skiers in the top 10 to wrap up the team title. Marie Schmidt finished second in 28:44, while Kaya Morelli was fourth and Mady Gerard was 10th.

Kenai also put three skiers in the top 10 to take second in the team standings. Kirsten Nyquist paced the Kards with a fifth-place finish, while Taylor Ostrander was seventh and Alex Bergholtz was eighth. The Skvyiew girls placed sixth in the team standings.

The Soldotna boys placed three in the top 10 of the 10-kilometer freestyle race to take the team title. Schyler Knopp of Palmer won the race in 29:18, while Grace’s Daniel Serventi finished at 29:19.

In the top 10 for the Stars were Dillon Jensen at third, Jonas Viekstrom at eighth and Luke Michael at ninth.

Homer was second in the team standings, with three in the top 10. Andre Lovett was fourth, Parker Sorenson was sixth and Brian Rowe was seventh.

Also from the area, the Kenai boys were fifth and Skyview was seventh.
