The Soldotna hockey team picked up a 3-1 victory over Kenai Central on Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center.
Both the Stars and Kardinals were supposed to be playing Dimond this weekend, but the weather forced the Lynx to stay in Anchorage. Both Kenai and Soldotna go on the road for key conference games this weekend, so the teams decided to play each other to get ready for the trip.
“We were happy we were able to get something together with Kenai given that they were in the same boat,” Soldotna coach Aaron Swanson said. “It was nice not having that hole in our schedule because we have to go up to the Valley next weekend.”
Zack Zulkanycz got the scoring started for Kenai in the first period with an unassisted goal. However, Soldotna would score two times before the end of the first period. Jarrett Urban scored on an assist from Matti Silta and Dagen Walton lit the lamp on assists from Max Hegge and Urban.
Josh Kerkvliet finished the scoring in the third period with an unassisted goal.
Swanson said that Silta had, probably, his best game of the season.
“He made good decisions with the puck and without the puck,” Swanson said. “He was always around the puck. He played a great defensive game.”
Cody Harvey picked up the win in net.
