Hoops roundup, SoHi boys take a pair

The Soldotna boys basketball team had a solid weekend at home, defeating East on Friday before topping Grace Christian on Saturday.
“It was a good weekend,” Soldotna coach Matt Johnson said.
The Stars beat the Grizzlies 59-53. Tanner Fowler paced SoHi with 15 points, while Evan Withrow added 10. Johnson also said Garrett Bosick made a difference with his rebounding.
Johnson said the win was made possible by a strong second-half defensive performance by his squad.
Soldotna boys 59, East 53
The Stars notched a nonconference victory over the Thunderbirds on Thursday at Soldotna.
Withrow paced the Stars with 26 points, and had a big fourth quarter to key the victory. He scored 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Cory Carver added 14 points for the Stars, who also got six points apiece from Tanner Fowler and Bosick.
Cook Inlet girls 60, Eagle River 29
The Eagles used a 23-1 run in the second quarter to swamp the Wolves on Friday in nonconference action in Soldotna.
CIA held a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. Kelsie Leaf had 22 points for the Eagles, including 18 in the first half. Megan Bauder added 15.
Lauren Frost paced the Wolves with 10 points.
Ninilchik girls 46, Homer JV 37
The host Wolverines picked up a nonconference win over the Mariners on Friday.
Jessica Rogers had 15 points to lead Ninilchik, while Lyndsay Appelhanz had 11 and Alisha Ehlers had 10.
Eagle River girls 45, Skyview 30
After winless seasons the last two seasons, the Wolves picked up their first victory this year.
Dana Panfil had 15 points for Eagle River, while Samantha Coy had 12.
For Skyview, Chelsey Ahlers had 15 points.
Skyview boys 57, Eagle River 52
DJ Diaz had 19 points as the host Panthers notched a nonconference victory over the Wolves on Saturday.
Preston Penrod had 16 points for Skyview, while Jordan Jones added 10.
Seward boys 52, Houston 43
The Seward boys were able to beat the Hawks in the final quarter to win at Houston Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action.
Leading by a point going into the fourth quarter, Seward outscored Houston 19-11 to put the game away.
Leading the Seahawks was Jalen Terry with 24 points.
Houston’s leading scorer was Theo Stone with 10 points.
CIA boys 57, Nikiski 53
The Nikiski boys rallied from a halftime deficit of 34-23, but fell short at the end on Saturday at Nikiski in nonconference action.
Colton Anderson had a big night, scoring 30 total points, which included eight 3-pointers, but was outdone by David Reischach of CIA, who had 33 points on the night.
CIA girls 39, Nikiski 34
Kelsie Leaf led Cook Inlet to the win Saturday night at Nikiski. Leaf paced CIA with 16 points.
Savannah Griffel of Nikiski mustered 18 points, all from 3-pointers, but was unable to get the Bulldogs the win in a game that they were never far from the lead.
